Social Media Marketing Strategies

Following are some cost effective ways to attract eye-balls to your content.

Facebook

  1. Create a 'Page' for your business on facebook. Why? Because every time you post something to your Facebook 'Page' 'Wall', it'll show in your 'Fans' 'Feed' (as is the case with your personal Facebook profile). That's instant exposure to your Fan base - like an Ad on TV, it's an opportunity to place yourself in their thoughts - remind them of your existence. As the saying goes "Out of sight, out of mind" - when you're "in sight", you're "in mind". This is Soft or Viral Advertising. Obviously you need 'Fans' for this to occur. See the next point.
  2. Invite your current Facebook friends to become a fan of your business 'Page'. This is just your way of asking them permission to share your 'Page' posts with them - in other words keep them abreast of news about your business.
  3. Comment on your friends posts. "Givers gain" on facebook - comment on photos, comment on statuses - it's just another way to create relationship, and in turn they'll visit your profile to see what you have going on.
  4. Invite your email list to be on facebook. Facebook makes it easy migrate your current contacts.
  5. Send a friend request to all your current friends/contacts who are on facebook.
  6. Place Ads in the right column of Facebook. To illustrate the power of this, I recall last year I changed my relationship status from single to engaged. Immediately I noticed Ads for local photographers appearing on the right side of the page. Cool huh?
  7. Link your facebook account to your twitter account - so you can update both your twitter and facebook status at the same time: http://www.facebook.com/twitter/

Google Maps

Improve your Google Maps business listing Page Rank by asking your happy clients to post a review about (and rate) your company. It'll help boost your local search page-rank. Just remember, it only counts if the review comes from a verified google account owner. One of the reasons for this is it helps limit marketers ability to artificially boost their business listings Page Rank. For example, if it weren't for this filter, imagine you could write yourself 100 fake testimonials and give yourself a bunch of positive votes. That in turn would reduce the value of googles Page Rank system, and put them out of business as people get back more and more trash from their searches...
